Vallejo Seaweed Rally Past Marysville Drakes 12-9

May 22 2024 The Vallejo Seaweed defeated the Marysville Drakes 12-9 after combining a six-run third inning with a three-run sixth. Vallejo scored in four of the first six innings and finished with 12 hits, while Marysville collected 15 hits but came up short at Bryant Field.

Vallejo broke open a 1-0 game with six runs in the third inning, taking a 7-0 lead. The Seaweed added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth, including RBI contributions from Eddie Molina, Ike Brown, Nick Dibennetto, Kevin Consolazio, Jamaiz Hunt, Christian Zellner and J.T. Reed. Brown went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while J.T. Reed had two hits and two RBI. Mickey Nunes scored three times.

Marysville answered with four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth before tying the game at 9-9 with a three-run sixth. Chris Cook hit a home run and finished with two hits and an RBI, and Joe Starick went 4-for-5. Jalen Gordon added three hits and scored twice, while Demarco Hawthorne and Sean Connolly each drove in two runs.

Christian Zellner earned the win for Vallejo despite allowing nine runs, seven earned, on 12 hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out two and walked one. Devan Galvan recorded the save with two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Rodrigo Sanchez took the loss for Marysville after allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits in 2.1 innings.
